(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's lacrosse team came out inspired to face visiting McDaniel College in the 2nd Annual Coaches vs. Cancer match-up between the two schools. McDaniel head coach Kristin Ramey and Dickinson's Kim Lowry squared-off the event for the second straight year, in a friendly rivalry game between the former McDaniel teammates.
The Red Devils wasted little time setting the tone as senior Carly O'Brien (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton Day) put Dickinson on the board in the opening 20 seconds. She fed junior Jennifer Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) at the 25:51 mark, and first-year Elizabeth Sitko (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School) tickled the twine, less than two minutes later, for a 3-0 advantage.
McDaniel put a goal on the board with 22:51 remaining in the half as Julia Jacobs finished an assist from Olivia Geiger. O'Brien found Morrissey again to stretch the lead to 4-1.
The Green Terror answered with back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to 4-3, with 11:01 to play in the half. The Red Devils closed out the half with a 4-1 run to hold an 8-4 advantage at the break. Sophomore Sophie Waine (Wellesley, Mass./Greenwich) and O'Brien tallied unassisted goals in a span of just 32 seconds to lead, 6-3, with 8:07 on the clock.
Samantha Barbeito broke up the run before O'Brien netted herself a hat-trick and dished out an assist to Maddy Siebold (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) to close out the half with a four-goal margin.
Siebold and Sitko opened the second half with a pair of goals in the first two minutes, and O'Brien converted a free position to stretch the lead to 11-4, with 26:12 remaining in the game.
Sophomore Allison Carey (Weston, Conn./Laurelton Hall) joined in on the attack, netting an unassisted goal and handing out an assist to Siebold for a 13-4 advantage. Danielle Entrot sandwiched a pair of goals around a final strike from O'Brien for the final of 14-6.
Entrot led McDaniel (8-6, 3-4) with her hat-trick while Lily Galzerano made 12 saves in the nets.
O'Brien led the offensive for the Red Devils, scoring five goals and handing out three assists. Siebold netted a hat-trick as well, adding five draw controls, two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
