Devils Bet on Black, Blank Bobcats 4-0

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team opened the 2015 season without an outstanding team effort to turn back visiting Frostburg State University, 4-0, on Tuesday afternoon. Senior Tara Black (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) posted the shutout in her first collegiate start, making a pair of saves behind an outstanding defensive effort.

The Red Devils struck twice in the first half as first-year Chelsea Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) found the back of the cage, 12 minutes into the contest.

Dickinson controlled the tempo and held possession for the better part of the half. They continued to keep fresh legs on the field and capitalized with a 23-3 advantage in shots, and held a 6-1 edge in penalty corners.

The Devils tallied again with just 1:49 remaining in the first half when first-year Julia Murphy (Greenwood Village, Colo./Colorado Academy) found sophomore Lily Mott (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) in front of the net for 2-0 lead.

Junior Catherine Perlmutter (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) finished an assist from Caroline Karwel (Fairfax Station, Va./South County Secondary) to stretch the lead to 3-0, just four minutes into the second half.

Sophomore Emilie Arrix (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) put five shots on goal and closed out the scoring with just over 10 minutes remaining as Murphy recorded her second assist of the afternoon.

The Red Devils received strong play all over the field, highlighted by a solid defensive effort from Merritt Davis (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest), Chloe Morakis (Potomac, Md./Wootton) and Kim Monteferante (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Lakeland).

Alexis Bonser (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) turned in a great performance in the midfield, forcing turnovers and triggering the Devils' counter attack.

Dickinson finished with a 35-7 shots advantage, adding six corners in the second half (12-3). Frostburg's Jackie Glover turned away 19 shots in a solid effort in goal, stopping 15 shots in the first half.

The Red Devils start the season 1-0. They are home again on Saturday, hosting Bridgewater College at 4:00 pm.
