Red Devils Shutout Shoremen in CC Opener

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team opened the 2015 Centennial Conference season with a 2-0 victory over visiting Washington College on Saturday night at Miller Memorial Field.

Senior Alfred Hylton-Dei (Geneva, Switzerland/Mercersburg Academy, Pa.) put the Red Devils on the board early, collecting a loose ball on the six yard line and ripping the ball into the back of the net, just four minutes into the match.

The Red Devils held a slight edge in a tightly contested first half, outshooting the Shoremen just 9-8. Washington had more shots on target, forcing five saves from junior goaltender Jeremy Palcan (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Ignatius Prep) in the opening stanza.

Hylton-Dei tallied another point after the break, dishing off an assist to sophomore Ryan Brown (Schnecksville, Pa./Moravian Academy) in the 60th minute.

Dickinson appeared to have tallied for a third time but the goal was called back for offsides after the ball was cleared off the line by a defender when a shot got past the keeper.

The Devils put seven shots on net in the second half, finding the twine once while junior Jonathan Wendeborn made six saves to finish with seven on the night.

Palcan turned away a pair in the second to finish with seven as well. Washington suffers its second straight loss to fall to 4-2 on the season.

The Red Devils improve to 4-2 overall and start 1-0 in conference play. Dickinson travels to the University of Mary Washington on Wednesday for a non-conference match with the Eagles. Opening kick-off is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
