(Collegeville, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to play to a, 2-2 tie at Ursinus College on Saturday night.
The Red Devils struck early as first-year Ward Van de Water (Warrenton, Va./Highland) put a shot over the head of the Ursinus goalkeeper, just 2:48 into the contest.
The Bears wasted little time pulling even, scoring less than two minutes later. Dean DerSimonian finished an assist from Ryan Butler to knot the match, 1-1, with just 4:09 off the clock.
Butler put the Bears in front, redirecting a header off a cross from Joe Alesio into the net with five minutes remaining in the first half.
The teams traded multiple shots, early in the second half. Jesse Hart almost gave Ursinus a 3-1 lead, hitting a strike off the crossbar in the 51st minute.
Dickinson leveled the match with a goal in the 80th minute as junior Danny Sheppard (Rydal, Pa./Abington) deflected a cross from senior Alfred Hylton-Dei (Geneva, Switzerland/Mercersburg Academy, Pa.) to force overtime.
Ursinus forced a corner to start the first overtime period but was unable to convert. The Red Devils had a chance as well when Van de Water redirected a header off a corner by Hylton-Dei, but Vince Malorino was there to make the save for Ursinus.
The teams finished out the second overtime having to settle for the tie. Ursinus moves to 1-4-2 overall and 0-1-1 in Centennial Conference play. The Red Devils slide to 5-2-1 and 1-0-1 in conference.
Malorino finished with nine saves on the night with Dickinson goaltender Jeremy Palcan (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Ignatius Prep) making four. The teams each had four corners while the Devils held a slight advantage in shots, 19-15.
The Red Devils are on the road again on Wednesday, traveling to McDaniel College for a 4:00 pm
