(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team started off homecoming weekend with a big win over visiting Swarthmore College, posting a 3-1 victory on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils struck first, scoring on a penalty corner, 19:35 into the game. First-year Chelsea Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) tallied the goal with assists from Merritt Davis (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) and Jenna Bendinelli (Princeton, N.J./Montgomery).
Emilie Arrix (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) redirected a shot off the stick of Caroline Karwel (Fairfax Station, Va./South County Secondary), just over two minutes later to stretch the lead to 2-0.
The Garnet responded with a goal to cut the deficit to 2-1 at halftime. Erin Gluck tipped in a shot by Clare Perez, with just over 11 minutes remaining in the first half.
Senior Emily Fuss (Newtown Square, Pa/Academy of Notre Dame) made three big saves in the first half while the Red Devils forced senior Ainsley Parrish to make 10 saves as they held a 17-4 shot advantage.
The second half saw much of the same as Dickinson continued to apply offensive pressure, outshooting Swarthmore, 21-2, after the break. The Garnet held the edge in corners in the first half, 5-4, but the Devils turned the tables in the second, holding an 8-2 advantage.
Junior Catherine Perlmutter (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) scored her fifth goal of the season, and number 30 in her career, finishing an assist from Davis, with 18:43 remaining in the game.
Parrish finished with 20 saves on the afternoon as the Garnet fall to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the Centennial Conference.
Fuss added one save in the second half as Dickinson improves to 6-1 overall 2-1 in the conference. The Red Devils travel to York College on Wednesday to face the Spartans at 4:30 pm.
