(Elizabethtown, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 setback at Elizabethtown College in the opening round of the Blue Jay/Red Devil Brothers Pizza Classic on Saturday afternoon.
The host Blue Jays struck early, scoring just 9:24 into the contest on a nice build into the attack. Shane Votto delivered a through ball to Cal Graziano who served a cross to Gilbert Waso for his first goal of the young season.
The Red Devils capitalized on a Blue Jay miscue as senior Alfred Hylton-Dei (Geneva, Switzerland/Mercersburg Academy, Pa.) crossed a ball from the left side that was misplayed in the box for an own goal in the 62nd minute.
Just under 10 minutes later, Graziano would put Elizabethtown back in front, just winning a 50-50 ball in the front of the net that skipped into the right corner of the for a 2-1 advantage with 16 minutes remaining in the game.
Elizabethtown would hold to improve to 2-0 on the season. The Blue Jays outshot the Devils, 13-4, on the day and held a slim edge in corners, 2-1. Junior goaltender Jeremy Palcan (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Ignatius College Prep) made four saves in goal for Dickinson.
The Red Devils (1-1) return home to face Lebanon Valley College in the second round at Miller Memorial Field on Sunday afternoon. The Red Devil women host Penn State Altoona at 12:00 pm, followed by the men kicking-off at 4:00 pm.
