(Carlisle, Pa.) – Junior forward Danny Sheppard (Rydal, Pa./Abington) netted a hat-trick to lead the Dickinson men's soccer team to a 4-1 win over visiting Lebanon Valley College on day two of the Brothers Pizza Blue Jay/Red Devil Classic.
Sophomore Matthew Edmonds (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) put the Devils on the board in the 31st minute, breaking free down the right side and placing the ball inside the far post. The Devils struck again just over three minutes later to quickly pull in front 2-0.
Sophomore Ryan Brown (Schnecksville, Pa./Moravian Academy) served a beautiful ball over the shoulder of Sheppard, who broke behind the defense and found the back of the net with his first goal of the season. Sheppard gave the Devils a three goal advantage right before halftime, heading in a free kick off a serve from Lucas Masiado (Ambler, Pa./Saucon Valley).
Lebanon Valley put a goal on the board in the 52nd minute on a one-timer from Cam Alexander, set up by a nice cross from Ethan Abdalla.
Sheppard capitalized on another free kick, scoring his third goal of the game with an assist from James Bundren (Herndon, Va./Oakton) to close out the scoring and complete the hat-trick.
The Red Devils held a 20-5 advantage in shots, recording 10 in each half. Junior goaltender Jeremy Palcan (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Ignatius College Prep) made one save while Jacob Schreer (Towaco, N.J./Morristown Beard) came on to stop one shot as well.
The Red Devils improve to 2-1 on the season. They are home again next Saturday, hosting Alvernia University at 5:00 pm on Miller Memorial Field.
