(Amherst, Mass.) – The #25-ranked Dickinson women's squash team went 2-1 on Friday and Saturday, competing at the Pioneer Valley Round Robin. The Red Devils suffered a 6-3 setback to #24 William Smith College on Friday but rebounded with 6-3 win over #27 Mt. Holyoke and a thrilling 5-4 decision against #28 Connecticut College. On Sunday the Devils fell to #16 Amherst, 9-0.

Stuart Lemay (Harwich Port, Mass./Westover) battled to a 3-1 win in the second flight of the Mt. Holyoke match.

Alanis Perez (New Haven, Conn./Canterbury School) swept the third flight (11-7, 11-7, 11-6) and Sarah Clothier (Bryn Mawr, Pa./The Shipley School) claimed the fourth, (11-7, 8-11, 11-811-7). Clothier swept the fourth flight in the Connecticut College match, winning (11-7, 11-4, 11-7).

The Red Devils captured flights six, seven and eight to secure the win. Meaghan Dashcund (South Hamilton, Mass./Phillips Exeter Academy) overcame a 5-11 opening set to claim the match with three straight games (11-1, 11-7, 11-4). She worked her way to a 3-0 win against Connecticut (11-9, 11-8, 11-8).

Junior Merritt Davis (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) cruised to an 11-4, 11-5, 11-5 decision while Abbie Wingerd (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) survived a 12-10 first set to sweep her match 12-10, 11-5, 11-8. Wingerd earned a key point in the Connecticut match, winning the eighth (11-6, 11-6, 11-5).

Sophomore Freddie Bancroft (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) won a tight match in the number nine spot, earning the point (11-8, 6-11, 13-11, 11-7). Nicole Deluca (Newtown Square, Pa./Baldwin School) overcame an 11-8 first-set to win the top flight (12-10, 11-9, 11-4).

The Red Devils (6-5) return home to face #12-ranked Drexel University at 6:30 pm.

The #25-ranked men's squash team went 1-2 on Friday and Saturday at the Pioneer Valley Round Robin. The Devils suffered losses to #24 Hobart College and #27 MIT before posting a solid 9-0 win over #29 Connecticut College. The Devils dropped an 8-1 decision to host Amherst on Sunday morning.

First-year Brian Hamilton (Wyndmoor, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) earned the Devils' lone point on Friday in the setback to Hobart.

Harrison Mayo (Penn Valley, Pa./Harriton) and Nicholas Struzenski (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) earned hard fought points in a 7-2 loss to MIT, both winning 3-2. Struzenski overcame a 2-0 deficit to claim the seventh flight (11-8, 12-10, 11-8).

Eight of the nine flights were decided by 3-2 scores, including Abdelrahman Elsergany (Cairo, Egypt/Kent School) and Hal Holappa (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan), battling in the top two flights. Elsergany rolled to a 3-0 win in the Connecticut match (11-5, 11-6, 11-5).

The Red Devils surrendered just two games in the match, posting 3-0 scores in seven flights. Cory Litman (Lower Merion, Pa./Lower Merion) led the way, winning the fourth flight (11-2, 11-6, 11-6).

On Sunday the Red Devils suffered an 8-1 setback to #22-ranked Amherst College. Litman earned the point with a win in a competitive fourth flight, 3-1. He won the first two sets 11-2 and 12-10 before dropping another long set, 13-11. He rebounded to take the match with a dominant fourth set, winning 11-1.

Hamilton put up a challenge before falling 3-2 in the third flight. Trailing 0-2, he rolled to an 11-1 win and tied the match in the fourth, 13-11. He went the distance in the fifth before David Merkel captured the point with a 12-10 decision. Elsergany had a strong start but fell in three sets (11-9, 12-10, 11-6).
