Box Score (Collegeville, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team had a strong first half at #8-ranked Ursinus College on Saturday, but suffered a 5-1 setback on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears struck early as Brooke Overly finished an assist from Amber Steigerwalt, just 2:17 into the match.
The Red Devils pulled even in the eighth minute on a goal from junior back Kim Monteferante (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Lakeland), but the Bears would quick respond as Overly returned the favor, assisting Steigerwalt, a little over a minute and a half later.
The Red Devils were still in good shape at the break, trailing just 2-1. The Bears added some insurance as Steigerwalt found Overly for the second time in the 42nd minute and then fed Gemma Dufoe to stretch the margin to 4-1, with 25:31 remaining in the game.
Overly recorded her second assist, finding Katie DeLuca in the 55th minute for the final of 5-1.
The Red Devils did tie the school record for goals in the season, netting their 54th of the year to match the mark from 2014.
Monteferante added a defensive save as well while junior goalkeeper Freddie Bancroft (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) made five saves for the Red Devils.
The Bears held a 16-3 advantage in shots and a 14-4 edge in penalty corners as they improved to 12-4 overall and 8-1 in Centennial Conference play.
The Red Devils slip to 10-5 overall and 6-3 in the conference. They travel to Juniata College for a non-conference match-up on Wednesday at 7:00 pm. They then return home to host #6-ranked Franklin & Marshall for the regular season finale at 11:00 am.
