#8 Ranked Diplomats Top Devils 3-1

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team suffered a 3-1 setback to #8-ranked Franklin & Marshall on Saturday in the regular season finale. The Red Devils earned the number-four seed in the Centennial Conference playoffs and will host Haverford College on Wednesday afternoon.

The Red Devils came out strong and produced some quality chances in the early minutes of the match. The Diplomats would be the ones who capitalized first however, putting a goal on the board in the ninth minute.

Melanie Consiglio found the back of the cage with 27:35 remaining in the first half. The Diplomats struck again, just over a minute later as Mel Gula scored off an assist from Annie Horsley to stretch the lead to 2-0 at the break.

The Red Devils continued to challenge throughout the match and created some strong chances while holding off a potent Diplomat attack. F&M would strike again as Nicole Bodo tipped in a hard blast off the stick of Sarah Schannauer with 19 minutes to play.

Dickinson kept battling and would eventually break through to spoil the shutout and put a goal on the board. Senior Catherine Perlmutter (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) redirected a shot from sophomore Chelsea Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) with just under 13 minutes remaining in regulation.

That would close out the scoring, however, as F&M improved to 13-3 overall and 9-1 in the conference. Ilianna Santangelo made five saves for the Diplomats.

The Diplomats held just a 10-9 advantage in shots while the Devils had the edge in penalty corners at 8-5.

Junior Freddie Bancroft (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) and first-year Heather Meeder (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) split time in goal for the Red Devils. Meeder came away with three saves, including a full-layout dive to turn away a shot in the second half.

The Red Devils slip to 11-6 overall and finish 6-4 in the conference to earn the number four seed. The game time for Wednesday's first round match-up with be determined on Monday.
