Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team came out on top of a hard fought match with visiting McDaniel College on Monday night, scoring a second half goal for 1-0, Centennial Conference win.
Following a scoreless first half, the Red Devils finally broke through, finishing after a nice build down the right side. First-year Brendan McGovern (Burlington, Vt./Kimball Union Academy, N.H.) made a strong play to set up the Devils at the top of the penalty area. Junior Will Bracken (Easton, Conn./Joel Barlow) then fed a nice pass to senior Danny Sheppard (Rydal, Pa./Abington) who finished in the right corner of the net in the 55th minute.
The Devils had some strong opportunities to add to the lead, later in the half. McGovern just missed on a header that almost slipped under the crossbar and Ryan Brown (Schnecksville, Pa./Moravian Academy) fired a hard shot, forcing a save by Nick Over.
Juniors Chris Pollock (Salem, Va./North Cross) and Matt Edmonds (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) did a solid job moving the ball through the midfield while the Red Devil defense turned away the McDaniel attack with strong play in the back.
Senior Jeremy Palcan (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Ignatius Prep) came up with some big saves in the nets for the Red Devils, finishing with six on the night.
Over tallied four saves for McDaniel as they slip to 2-5-2 overall and 0-3-1 in the Centennial Conference.
The Red Devils improve to 4-5-1 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play. They are home again on Wednesday, hosting the University of Misericordia at 7:00 pm.
