Box Score (Westminster, Md.) – The Dickinson field hockey team suffered its second straight setback, falling at McDaniel College, 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Green Terror put a goal on the board in the 14th minute, countering a penalty corner by the Red Devils to create a break-away opportunity for Haley VanNostrand, finishing a lead pass from Gabrielle Yore.
McDaniel struck again with just over nine minutes remaining in the first half. Emily Houska lifted a shot into the cage, following a penalty corner to put the hosts in front, 2-0.
The Red Devils dominated play in the second half but could not find the back of the cage. They outshot McDaniel 10-0 after the break, but solid play from goalkeeper Elizabeth Collyer kept the Terror on top.
The Devils made some strong attacking runs as Catherine Perlmutter (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) and Julia Murphy (Greenwood Village, Colo./Colorado Academy) put three straight shots on target but Collyer was able to turn them away.
Taylor Bednar (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) had a great opportunity as well but Emily Farrell came away with a defensive save to preserve the shutout.
McDaniel improved to 3-7 overall and 2-3 in the Centennial Conference.
The Red Devils slip to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the CC. They return home to face Lynchburg College on Friday afternoon at 3:00 pm and will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, hosting Bryn Mawr College at 1:00 pm.
