(Ithaca, N.Y.) – The #25-ranked Dickinson women's squash team suffered a 9-0 setback to 12th-ranked Williams College but rebounded for a 7-2 over #26-William Smith at the Cornell University Round Robin on Saturday.
Against William Smith, sophomore Hedvika Suchankova (Olomouc, Czech Republic/St. Michael's) suffered a tough, five-set decision in the top flight, falling 3-2.
The Red Devils won the next four flights in three-set sweeps led by Domenica Romo (Ambato, Ecuador/ Colegio Atenas) in the second flight. Stuart Lemay (Harwich Port, Mass./Westover School, Conn.) and first-year Jaime Leigh Edghill (Diego Martin, Trinadad & Tobago/Holy Name) won the third and fourth, and Nicole DeLuca (Newtown Square, Pa./Baldwin School) won a sweep in the fifth with scores of (11-9, 11-8, 12-10).
Sophomore Alanis Perez (New Canaan, Conn./Canterbury School) dropped a 3-1 decision in the sixth with Abbie Wingerd (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) and Sarah Murphy (Hamilton, Mass./Brooks School) claiming 3-1 wins in the eighth and ninth.
The Red Devils faced #8-ranked Cornell on Sunday with the Big Red claiming a 9-0 decision. Suchankova had a strong start in the top flight with Romo and Perez turning in solid sets as well.
The move to 1-3 on the season and will next compete at the Wesleyan Round Robin on December 3rd and 4th.
