(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's and women's squash teams both posted decisive 9-0 wins over visiting Johns Hopkins University and Haverford College in the Dickinson Winter Round Robin on Saturday at the Kline Center courts. The Red Devil women added another 9-0 sweep over the University of Rochester in the nightcap.
First-year Hedvika Suchankova (Olomouc, Czech Republic/St. Michael's) overcame a tough 12-10 opening set to win three straight and capture the match (11-4, 12-10, 11-8).
Sophomore Freddie Bancroft (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) allowed just four points, winning the #9-flight (11-0, 11-0, 11-4). Meaghan Dashcund (South Hamilton, Mass./Phillips Exeter Academy) turned in a dominant performance in the seventh flight, surrendering just three points in the final two sets.
Nicole DeLuca (Newtown Square, Pa./Baldwin School) earned the point in the second flight with a well-played match, winning (11-5, 11-4, 11-1).
Suchankova repeated the same strategy with a strong finish to claim the top spot against Haverford (8-11, 11-3, 11-4, 11-3). Sarah Clothier (Bryn Mawr, Pa./The Shipley School) held on for a 14-12 win in her first set, and closed out her match, 11-2, 11-3.
Stuart Lemay (Harwich Port, Mass./Westover) moved into the one spot against Rochester to post an (11-3, 11-3, 11-3) win and Alanis Perez (New Canaan, Conn./Canterbury School) won at number two, (11-3, 11-6, 11-4).
Sarah Murphy (Hamilton, Mass./Brooks School) and Dashcund added strong wins in the middle flights, going (11-2, 11-5, 11-1) and (11-2, 11-5, 11-2).
Abbie Wingerd (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) had three strong wins on the day. She started off (11-2, 11-6, 11-2) in the Hopkins match and won in straight sets, allowing nine points against Haverford. She finished the day with an (11-5, 11-7, 11-1) win against Rochester.
The Red Devil women improved to 9-6 on the season. They are home again on Monday night, hosting Drexel University at 6:30 pm.
