(Carlisle, Pa.) – The #24-ranked Dickinson women's squash team welcomed #9-ranked Drexel University to the Kline Center courts on Monday night, falling 8-1 to the visiting Dragons.
The guests swept the top eight flights but were unable to fill the ninth for default win. First-year Hedvika Suchankova (Olomouc, Czech Republic/St. Michael's) had two strong sets to finish her match in the top flight, suffering an 11-2, 11-5, 11-9) setback.
Nicole DeLuca (Newtown Square, Pa./Baldwin School) and Stuart Lemay (Harwich Port, Mass./Westover) turned in solid third sets in the second and third flights. First-year Sarah Murphy (Hamilton, Mass./Brooks School) also scored points in the number six spot. The Red Devil women slip to 9-7 overall on the season.
The Red Devil men, ranked 26th by the College Squash Association, also faced #9-ranked Drexel on Monday night, falling 9-0.
First-year Brian Hamilton (Wyndmoor, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) played in the number one spot and turned in a solid performance. He lost in three sets, but tallied eight points in the first and third, falling (11-8, 11-3, 11-8).
Hal Holappa (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) battled to an (11-7, 11-7, 11-6) setback while first-year classmate Cory Litman (Lower Merion, Pa./Lower Merion) claimed the second set in the third flight to fall 3-1, (11-7, 9-11, 11-3, 11-3).
Andrew Strudwick (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) played tough in the four spot (11-6, 11-7, 12-10) while Nicholas Struzenski (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) posted a score of (11-6, 11-6, 11-9).
The Red Devils slip to 12-8 overall. The men's and women's teams are next scheduled to compete at the CSA Team Championships, hosted by Yale University on February 19th through the 21st. The CSA Individual Championships are set to be held at Dartmouth University on March 4th, 5th and 6th.
