(Hilton Head, S.C.) – The Dickinson men's tennis team suffered a heartbreaker, falling to Asbury University, 5-4 on Thursday, and suffered a 6-3 setback to Carleton on Friday morning.
The Red Devils held a 2-1 lead after doubles, claiming the top two flights. Senior Joey Frank (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Boca Raton) survived a third set tie-breaker to capture the top singles flight, (6-2, 6-7, 1-0). Junior Steven Kaplan (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) won a hard fought match in the second, (6-4, 6-3).
Evan Davis (Westport, Conn./Staples) battled to three sets before falling (4-6, 7-6, 1-0) in the third flight. Asbury won the final three flights as well to secure the win.
Kaplan partnered with Samuel Loring (New York, N.Y./Blair Academy) to win at #1-doubles, 8-6. Davis teamed with first-year Derek Chen (Cranberry Twp., N.J./Cranberry Twp.) for an 8-6 decision in the second flight.
Loring earned two points in the Carleton match, joining Kaplan for an 8-6 win in the top doubles spot. He outlasted Patton McClelland in a three-set tie-break to win fifth singles (6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (5)). Nick Reese (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) and Shawn Diniz (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) won third doubles, 8-6 as well.
The Red Devils slip to 1-4 on the season. They return home to host Johns Hopkins University on Saturday, March 26th at 1:00 pm.
