Box Score (Clermont, Fla.) – The Dickinson women's lacrosse team squared-off against #12-ranked Amherst College at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida on Thursday afternoon. The Red Devils played a great second half, but were unable to overcome a tough start, falling 13-7.
Amherst scored the first four goals of the game, but over the course of a 19 minute span in the first half. Junior Maddy Siebold (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) broke up the run, scoring on a free position shot with 7:04 remaining in the first half.
Rachel Passarelli scored with 2:22 to play in the half to give Amherst a 5-1 lead at the break. Siebold struck first in the second half, converting another free position, just two minutes in.
The Red Devils went goal-for-goal with Amherst over the final 20 minutes of the game but were unable to close the gap. The Devils were only outscored 8-6 in the second half as Siebold found the net three times after the break.
Anne Dunster (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich) had a strong second half, scoring once and dishing out a pair of assists to classmate Sam Marmo (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) and senior Jennifer Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel).
Junior goaltender Tara Cuddihy (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) made five saves, controlled five ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.
Mara Cassidy (Silver Spring, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) caused a pair of turnovers and picked up two GBs while Molli Haimerl (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) controlled two draws, two ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers. Moira Mahoney (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) grabbed three draws and two ground balls.
Passarelli led Amherst with four goals as they improved to 3-1. Christy Forrest made 11 saves.
The Red Devils (1-2) return north to host Lebanon Valley College next Wednesday at 5:00 pm.
