Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's lacrosse team turned in a great performance on Wednesday night, hosting the #8-ranked Spartans of York College. The Spartans came away with a 10-3 victory, but were forced to work for it as the Red Devils held them scoreless for the first 26 minutes of the second half.
The Spartans had a quick start as Brittany Noell finished an assist from Allison Kolacy, just 36 seconds into the game. Caitlin Rankin added a free position goal at the 23:23 mark before the Devil defense shut down the visitors for the next eight minutes.
Kolacy broke through to make the score, 3-0, with 15:26 remaining in the half. The Devils had another strong stand before Melissa Meehling found the net with 7:04 on the clock.
York tallied two more before the break, taking a 6-0 advantage, but Dickinson showed little sign of being at all rattled.
The Red Devils came out of halftime and immediately made a point that they weren't going away. First-year Anne Dunster (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich) tallied a pair of goals around a free position strike from Maddy Siebold (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) to cut the deficit in half.
Dunster scored off assists from seniors Caroline Clancy (Monkton, Md./Hereford) and Mara Cassidy (Silver Spring, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) to pull the Devils within three at the 4:52 mark. Siebold found the net with 24 minutes before the teams kept each other off the board for the next 19 of the game.
The Spartans would tally four goals in the final 3:51 as the Red Devils were forced to extend the defense to try and force a turnover. Noell scored twice in the run with Kolady recording a pair of assists.
Noell finished with four goals while Kolady tallied a goal and four assists. Rachel Donovan earned the win, making five saves as the Spartans improved to 3-1 on the season.
Dunster tallied twice for the Red Devils while Seibold controlled four draws and three ground balls. Moira Mahoney (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) was solid on the circle as well, pulling in four draws on the night. Junior Tara Cuddihy (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) made eight saves and controlled a pair of ground balls to go with a caused turnover.
The Red Devils slip to 1-1 on the season. They travel to Florida next week for spring break and will face Amherst College at the National Training Center in Clermont on March 17th at 4:00 pm.
