Box Score (Westminster, Md.) – First-year Sam Marmo (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) tallied a hat-trick to lead the Red Devil women's lacrosse team to a 4-0 start at McDaniel on Wednesday night. They would go on to post a 15-6 win, improving to 7-6 overall and 3-3 in the Centennial Conference.
Sam Barbeito broke up the run, putting McDaniel on the board with a free position goal at the 12:58 mark. Caroline Clancy (Monkton, Md./Hereford) stretched the lead to 5-1, going coast-to-coast on a fast break with just over five minutes to play in the first half.
Eleanor Kaestner (Glyndon, Md./Franklin) scored off an assist from Allison Carey (Weston, Conn./Laurelton Hall) with 9:20 remaining and Carey finished an assist from Mara Cassidy (Silver Spring, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) at the 7:52 mark.
McDaniel answered, scoring back-to-back goals in a span of just 21 seconds to cut the deficit to 7-3, with 6:10 on the clock.
Jennifer Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) found the back of the net on a free position shot to make the score 8-3 with 4:23 remaining in the half. The teams traded goals with Maddy Siebold (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) scoring off a feed from Sophie Waine (Wellesley, Mass./Greenwich).
The Devils tacked on two more free position goals from Marmo and Morrissey before the end of the half to give Dickinson an 11-4 advantage.
The Green Terror struck twice to start the second half before Siebold found Clancy to put Dickinson in front, 12-6. The Devils worked a settled offense and added a goal at the 14 minute mark with Kaestner finishing an assist from Waine.
Morrissey connected with Cassidy to stretch the lead to 14-6 and Talene Bush (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) marked the scoring column with an assist from Seibold, with just 1:57 to play in the game. The Red Devils controlled the draw and ran out the clock.
Marmo finished with four goals while Morrissey tallied a hat-trick as well with three. Cassidy handed out three assists on the night. Siebold scored twice and had two assists, adding six draw controls, six ground balls and four caused turnovers. Moira Mahoney (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) grabbed three draws, two ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.
Junior goaltender Tara Cuddihy (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) made seven saves in goal for the Red Devils.
The Red Devils travel to Swarthmore College on Saturday with the opening draw set for 1:00 pm.
