Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's lacrosse team erased a 9-5 deficit in the second half to overtake visiting Muhlenberg for a 13-10 win, in a key Centennial Conference match-up on Wednesday night at Biddle Field.
The Red Devils struck first, scoring right off the opening draw as Anne Dunster (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich) finished a feed from Jennifer Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel), just 21 seconds into the contest.
Amanda Tullo scored twice as the Mules countered to take a 3-1 lead at the 23:43 mark. Dunster traded goals with Eliza Clark before first-year Sam Marmo (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Immaculate Heart) converted a free position and fed junior Maddy Siebold (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) to tie the game with 12:36 to play in the half.
Junior Sophie Waine (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) scored off an assist from first-year Eleanor Kaestner (Glyndon, Md./Franklin) to put Dickinson up, 5-4, less than a minute later.
Muhlenberg tallied a pair of unassisted goals to take a 6-5 advantage into halftime. The Mules scored the first three goals of the second half to lead, 9-5, with 23:24 remaining in the game.
The Red Devils kept their composure and came back with five unanswered goals to pull in front, 10-9, with 17:34 left to play.
Waine and junior Talene Bush (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) sandwiched a pair of free position goals around a nice dodge and score from Marmo to pull Dickinson within a goal at the 21:01 mark. Senior Caroline Clancy (Monkton, Md./Hereford) tied the game with just under 18 minutes remaining, and 24 seconds later Morrissey finished a great feed from Dunster to take the lead.
The Mules pulled even one more time before Morrissey drew a free position at the center hash, with 15 minutes on the clock. She found the back of the net, putting the Devils on top for good. Dunster scored her third, off an assist from Waine and then fed Marmo for her third of the game for the final of 13-10, with 4:16 remaining.
The Red Devils gained possession and were able to run out the clock to earn a hard fought victory.
Dunster and Marmo each recorded hat-tricks while Dunster handed out a pair of assists and caused a pair of turnovers. Siebold controlled eight draws on the night and junior goaltender Tara Cuddihy (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) made six saves and controlled three ground balls.
Muhlenberg falls to 11-4 overall and 4-4 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils improve to 9-6 overall and 5-3 in conference play. Dickinson travels to #4-ranked Franklin & Marshall on Saturday for a 12:00 start.
