Box Score (Haverford, Pa.) – Playing in a driving blizzard on Saturday, the #20-ranked Dickinson women's lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaker at Haverford, falling 8-7. The Red Devils overcame a 6-1 deficit and tied the game, but the 'Fords were able to net the final tally of the afternoon.
The second half was shortened to 18 minutes as the driving snow continued to pound Swan Field with no relief in sight. The men's game, scheduled for 3:00 pm has been postponed.
Haverford struck first, scoring just 1:29 into the contest. Senior Jennifer Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) answered off an assist from Maddy Siebold (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) at the 25:13 mark.
Christina Gould handed out three straight assists and Elyse Adler tallied twice in a 5-0 run to put Haverford in front, 6-1, with 6:32 to play in the first half.
The Red Devils would make a run of their own as senior Caroline Clancy (Monkton, Md./Hereford) made a nice dodge to create some space and found the net at the 3:03 mark. Clancy picked up a turnover and made a great run to clear, finding Siebold to cut the margin to 6-3, with 1:23 to play in the half.
The Red Devils claimed the opening draw of the second half and scored on a free position by Clancy to pull Dickinson within two. Another draw and free position, this time by Anne Dunster (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich) made it a one goal game with 16:07 left to play.
Haverford took the next draw and answered to extend the lead to 7-5, just a minute later. The teams traded possession as the visibility on the field continued to decrease. Dickinson fought through the snow to tally again with Dunster finding Siebold in front of the cage with 9:37 on the clock.
The Devils controlled another draw and Dunster tied the game at the 8:47 mark, knotting the score at 7-7. Haverford won the draw but the Red Devil defense made a great stand and gained possession with five minutes to play.
Megan Chenworth came up with a huge save to keep things even but Dickinson immediately forced another turnover. The 'Fords came back with an interception to take possession with just over two minutes remaining in regulation.
Molly Lausten drove the right side and finished with 58 seconds left to give Haverford the lead and the win as the 'Fords grabbed the ensuing draw and were able to run out the clock.
Siebold scored two goals and tallied an assist, controlling six draws on the day. Clancy struck twice, adding three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Moira Mahoney (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) caused a pair of turnovers and picked up three GBs as well. Dunster finished with two goals and an assist.
First-year goaltender Sarah Blelloch (Raleigh, N.C./St. Mary's) made three saves and picked up a pair of ground balls in her second start.
The Red Devils slip to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Susquehanna University on Wednesday for a non-conference match-up at 4:00 pm.
