Box Score (Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's lacrosse team turned in an outstanding effort in the Centennial Conference semifinals, putting a scare into #4-ranked and top-seed Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. The Diplomats pulled away late for a 13-6 victory, but the Red Devils kept them in striking distance until a final late run.
The Diplomats jumped out to a 3-0 lead but Dickinson kept its composure and looked to chip away at the lead. Senior Jennifer Morrissey (Rockville, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) put the Devils on the board to break up the run, making the score, 3-1, with 12:52 remaining in the half.
First-year Sam Marmo (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Immaculate Heart) finished an assist from classmate Anne Dunster (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich) as the Devils trailed just 5-2 at halftime.
Gabby Frank stretched the lead to 6-2 at the start of the second half before the Red Devils erupted for three straight goals to cut the deficit to 6-5, with just over 22 minutes remaining in the game.
Junior Maddy Siebold (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) converted a free position and then fed back-to-back assists to senior Caroline Clancy (Monkton, Md./Hereford), forcing the Diplomats to call a timeout.
The Diplomats looked to take a more cautious approach on attack, looking to making the most of their possessions as the Red Devils continued to apply pressure. They pulled in front, 7-5 and then the Devil defense held for eight minutes before Paige Moriarty found the net for an 8-5 advantage.
F&M would capitalize as the Red Devils stretched the defense, looking to force a turnover and make another run. The Diplomats were able to hold, adding a string of late scores to for the final of 13-6.
Junior goaltender Tara Cuddihy (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) turned in another strong performance, making eight saves and controlling three ground balls. Senior Moira Mahoney (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) produced three takeaways on the day and picked up three GBs.
Clancy led the attack with a hat-trick while Siebold tallied a goal and two assists. Siebold was dominant on the draws, controlling seven on the day, making her the first player to record over 100 in a single season. She set the school record and now has 102 on the year.
Morrissey finished with a goal and assist while Marmo and Dunster each marked the scoring column.
F&M improved to 18-1 overall and advances to Sunday's championship game at 4:00 pm. The Red Devils finish 11-8 overall.
