Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team played through double-overtime, opening the 2016 season with a 1-1 tie against visiting Randolph Macon College on Thursday afternoon.
The Red Devils held the advantage in possession for a majority of the game, doubling up the Yellow Jackets in shots, 26-13. Sophomore Olivia Termini (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) put the Red Devils on the board in the 28th minute, slipping a shot into the right corner.
Randolph Macon capitalized on a free kick, 25 yards out as junior Kasey Martino placed a beautifully struck ball just inside the far post to pull the Yellow Jackets even with just over 20 minutes remaining in regulation.
The Red Devils had a great chance in the second half but a diving save by first-year Christina Newman kept the match even.
The teams battled through the final minutes with both teams creating chances. That carried over into overtime but neither would concede as they both open the season 0-0-1.
Newman finished with 10 saves while Lindsay Zachman made three stops in the first half. Sophomore Mary Katherine Brosnan (Old Tappan, N.J./Northern Valley Old Tappan) made four saves, earning the start in the Dickinson nets.
The Red Devils had some great opportunities, holding a 12-0 advantage in corners. First-year Addy Zandt (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson) served up a number of dangerous serves, putting a pair of attempts on net.
The Devils dodged a bullet in the first half as Kasey Booth hit a penalty kick off the post.
The Red Devils are in action again on Saturday, traveling to Penn State Altoona for a 2:00 pm kick-off.
