Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team broke into the win column on Wednesday night, handing visiting Goucher College its first loss of the season with a 3-0 decision at Miller Memorial Field.
The Red Devils struck early as sophomore Ward Van de Water (Warrenton, Va./Highland) scored off an assist from junior Austin Sumners (Trenton, N.J./The Pennington School), 12:35 into the contest.
The Red Devils stretched the lead to 2-0 before halftime as Kevin Gilbert (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet Regional) tallied his first collegiate goal, finishing an assist from junior Matt Edmonds (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) with just over seven minutes remaining.
The Red Devils held a 12-2 advantage in shots at the break and doubled up the Gophers on corners, 2-1.
Edmonds closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 83rd minute to give the Devils some added insurance.
Dickinson finished the match with a 25-8 advantage in shots on the night. The Devils put a dozen on the net, forcing nine saves from Daniel Hendry. First-year Frederick Meagher (Southport, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) made five saves to post his first collegiate win and shutout.
Goucher slip to 3-1-1 on the season while the Red Devils improve to 1-3-1 overall. Dickinson opens its Centennial Conference schedule on Saturday, traveling to Washington College for a 4:00 pm start.
