Box Score (Chestertown, Md.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker on Saturday, suffering a 2-1 overtime loss in its Centennial Conference opener at Washington College.
The Shoremen put a goal in the board in the 28th minute as Cole Strong gained possession and scored unassisted, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The Red Devils capitalized on a corner kick in the 67th minute to net the equalizer. Junior Macsen Pritchard (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) headed in a serve from classmate Matt Edmonds (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) to pull Dickinson even.
The teams played scoreless through the remainder of regulation, sending the match into overtime. Washington tallied the game-winner on a set piece as Griffin Bull laced a 30-yarder into the upper left corner of the net for the win in the 97th minute.
The Shoremen doubled up the Devils in shots, 20-10, and held a 7-3 advantage on corners. A very physical game saw seven cards issued and 33 fouls in the match.
Josh Samuels made six saves for Washington as they improve to 2-4 on the season. Jeremy Palcan (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Ignatius Prep) made seven saves for Dickinson and Frederick Meagher (Southport, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) added a pair.
The Red Devils slip to 1-4-1 overall and start conference play at 0-1-0. The Red Devils return home to host the University of Mary Washington on Wednesday at 6:00 pm.
