Box Score (Fredericksburg, Va.) – The Dickinson field hockey team rebounded with a solid win on Saturday, turning back St. Mary's College, 4-2, at the University of Mary Washington.
Sophomore Chelsea Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) scored twice in the first half to put the Red Devils up, 2-0, at the break. She put the Devils on the board in the 11th minute, re-directing an assist from junior Kim Monteferante (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Lakeland).
Sophomore Taylor Bednar (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) intercepted a pass and fed a cross to Kramer for her second goal of the game, with just over 30 minutes remaining on the half.
Dickinson outshot the Seahawks, 14-4 in the opening stanza, holding a 12-5 advantage in penalty corners.
Senior Catherine Perlmutter (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) gave the Red Devils a 3-0 lead, scoring just over three minutes into the second half. Junior Amber Dey (Flemington, N.J./South Hunterdon) closed out the scoring for Dickinson, finishing first-year Mia Scott's (Mount Laurel, N.J./Holy Cross) first collegiate assist, putting the Devils up, 4-0.
St. Mary's continued to battle and tried to make things interesting in the final minutes, countering with a goal just seconds later as Molly Belson found the cage to put the Seahawks on the board. Carly Todd broke in to tally with just 55 seconds remaining for the final of 4-2.
The Red Devils finished with a 21-9 advantage in shots and held a 16-6 edge in penalty corners on the afternoon.
Alyssa Thompson made 12 saves for St. Mary's with Megan Moore recording a defensive save.
Freddie Bancroft (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) made three saves for the Red Devils with Monteferante coming away with a defensive save as well.
The Red Devils improve to 1-1 on the young season. They return home to face York College on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 pm.
