(Cambridge, Mass.) – The #21-ranked Dickinson women's squash team suffered a pair of tough, 5-4 setbacks to #18-Bowdoin and #19-Tufts University on Friday.
In the Bowdoin match, sophomore Hedvika Suchankova (Olomouc, Czech Republic/St. Michael's) opened with a hard fought win in the top flight (3-11, 11-8, 10-12, 11-9, 11-7). Domenica Romo (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Atenas) claimed the second in four sets (11-8, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9).
Sarah Murphy (Hamilton, Mass./Brooks School) overcame a tough first set to win the seventh flight (8-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-7) while senior Merritt Davis (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) tallied the fourth point with a 3-0 win in the ninth flight (11-7, 11-6, 11-8).
The Devils earned points in the top three flights against Tufts. Suchankova dropped the first set but came back strong, closing out the match with an 11-1 fourth. Romo overcame a 2-1 deficit with back-to-back 11-5 scores to win the second, 3-2.
Nicole DeLuca (Newtown Square, Pa./Baldwin School) won a five-set marathon in the third, rallying from two sets down, (11-7, 10-12, 11-13, 11-5, 11-4). Abbie Wingerd (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) battled to a 3-1 win the sixth (14-12, 11-5, 10-12, 12-10).
The Red Devils slip to 4-8 on the season. They wrap up a three-day road trip on Saturday, facing Wellesley College at 10:30 am on the campus of MIT.
