Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team outlasted visiting Juniata College, 3-2, in overtime on Wednesday afternoon at Biddle Field.
The teams traded goals during the match, ending regulation in a 2-2 tie. Senior Amber Dey (Flemington, N.J./South Hunterdon) won the ball at the top of the circle and found the back of the cage with the game-winner, with 4:26 remaining in the first overtime.
Dey put the Red Devils up, 1-0, scoring off a give-and-go in the circle with first-year Marie Laverdiere (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) on a penalty corner, just five minutes into the match.
Meredith Shephard tied things up in the in the 15th minute, finishing an assist from Katie Alexander, on the Eagles' lone penalty corner of the first half.
The Red Devils regained the lead before halftime as senior Alex Bonser (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) blasted a feed from Kim Monteferante (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Lakeland) with just over 11 minutes to play in the first half.
Juniata pulled even once again, with 12 minutes to play in the game as Mina Wilt send a well-played cross into the circle and Grace Alexander knotted the game, 2-2.
The Red Devils were controlling play in the overtime and capitalized on a Juniata yellow card to keep the pressure on in the offensive end. Dey gained possession at the top of the circle and made a nice dodge to create a great look at the cage, netting the game-winner with her second goal of the game.
The Red Devils outshot the Eagles, 6-0, in the overtime to finish with a 16-10 shot advantage. Dickinson was solid in the circle, defensively, allowing just four penalty corners while producing 16 on the day.
Kylie Edwards came away with seven saves for Juniata (7-6) while senior Freddie Bancroft (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) turned away six on the day.
The Red Devils improve to 8-6 on the season. They are home again on Saturday, hosting Haverford College at 1:00 pm.
