Box Score (Baltimore, Md.) – The Dickinson field hockey team suffered a 4-0 setback at Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday afternoon at Homewood Field. The hosts scored once in the first half and tallied three after the break to improve to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in the Centennial Conference.
The Blue Jays capitalized on a rebound to put their first goal on the board in the 17th minute as Princess Sutherland collected the ball in the circle and found the cage.
Hopkins struck twice to open the second half. The Blue Jays stretched the lead to 2-0, just 2:28 after the break as Clare Kavanaugh finished an assist from Lucy Reider.
Morgan Pothast handed out a pair of assists as the Blue Jays stretched the margin to 4-0. Pothast fed Katie McErlean and then connected with Kavanaugh for her second goal of the game with 25 minutes remaining in the game.
The Red Devils continued to put together solid attacking runs, but were unable to generate many strong chances. The Devils had a stretch of multiple penalty corners with sophomore Alana Platukus (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Pittston Area) firing a shot off the post in the second half.
The Blue Jays outshot the Red Devils 22-4 and held a 16-8 advantage on penalty corners.
Junior Chelsea Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown-Beard) forced the lone save from Jodie Baris in the first half while senior Freddie Bancroft (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) made 10 saves for Dickinson as they slip to 6-3 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
The Red Devils return to Carlisle for homecoming weekend. They host Washington College on Saturday morning at 11:00 am.
