(Philadelphia, Pa.) – The #23-ranked Dickinson women's squash team suffered a tough loss to #6-Drexel University, but rebounded to knock-off #18-ranked Franklin & Marshall, 5-4, on Saturday afternoon.
Drexel claimed all nine matches in straight sets to capture a 9-0 decision, but the Red Devils regrouped to hold off the Diplomats in a thrilling match.
The Diplomats claimed a pair of close, 3-1, decisions in the top two flights, and wins in the fifth and sixth flights.
First-year Eloise Nimoityn (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy) captured the third flight (11-9, 11-9, 11-9) and sophomore Jaime Leigh Edghill (Diego Martin, Trinidad & Tobago/Holy Name) survived a battle in the third set to win the fourth flight (11-6, 11-7, 14-12).
The Red Devils posted straight-set wins in the seventh, eighth and ninth flights for the 5-4 decision. First-year Aya Sobhy (Stroudsburg, Pa./Blair Academy) won at seven while classmate Carley Barton (Harare, Zimbabwe / Chisipite) dominated the ninth (11-2, 11-4, 11-4).
Sophomore Abbie Wingerd (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) went (11-4, 11-8, 11-6) to win the eighth.
The Red Devils move to 1-2 on the season. They travel to Williams College next weekend to face both Williams and Cornell University on Saturday.
