PK Leads Diplomats Past Devils for CC Title

Box Score

(Baltimore, Md.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team played a hard fought match, but suffered a 1-0 setback to Franklin & Marshall in the Centennial Conference Championship on Sunday afternoon at Johns Hopkins' Homewood Field.

The first half saw both teams with quality chances to take the lead, but the match remained scoreless as they headed into the break. The Red Devils held an 8-5 advantage in shots, forcing three saves from Christopher Amoruso.

The second half was much of the same with play moving from end line to end line. The Diplomats would catch a break as they were awarded a penalty kick in the 66th minute. Zach Colton converted what would prove to be the game-winner.

The Red Devils kept grinding on the offense end, putting 4-of-5 shots on the net in the second half.

Sophomore goaltender Frederick Meagher (Southport, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) turned in a solid performance in the nets, turning away five shots on the day. F&M held a 10-5 advantage in corners and created some dangerous chances, but Meagher and the Red Devil defense were able to hold on the set pieces.

Amoruso was named the Tournament MVP, finishing with seven saves as the Diplomats improve to 11-5-2 overall.

The Red Devils slip to 11-6-3 on the season. They will now await a possible NCAA Tournament at-large bid, which will be announced on Monday afternoon.
