Box Score (Swarthmore, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw at Swarthmore College on Saturday to open the 2017 Centennial Conference schedule.
The teams traded possession and goals throughout the match as Dickinson struck first, putting a goal on the board in the 24th minute. First-year Colin Fagan (Chalfont, Pa./C.B. South) finished an assist from Ward Van de Water (Warrenton, Va./Highland) after a rebound from a free kick.
The Garnet pulled even in the 29th minute, using a set piece as Michael Nafziger redirected a header off a serve from Tommy Sheehan to knot the game, 1-1.
The Red Devils regained the lead as Kevin Gilbert (Boxford, Mass./Masconemet Regional) received a long pass from Lionel Reid-Shaw (Hillsborough, N.C./Orange) and chipped the ball over the goaltender for a 2-1 advantage in the 62nd minute.
Frederick Meagher (Southport, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) came away with a big save with just over 23 minutes to play and pulled the ensuing corner out of the air to keep the match level.
Swarthmore would answer again however, with just over two minutes remaining in regulation as Francis Eddy Harvey found the corner of the net from the top of the 18 to force overtime.
The teams remained scoreless through two overtime periods as Swarthmore moves to 2-3-1 overall and 0-0-1 in conference play. The Red Devils are 3-2-1 on the season and 0-0-1 in the CC.
Oliver Steinglass made seven saves for Swarthmore while Meagher finished with five on the day.
The Red Devils are on the road again on Wednesday, traveling to the University of Mary Washington for a 5:00 pm kick-off.
