Box Score (Swarthmore, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team won its Centennial Conference opener, posting a 1-0 win at Swarthmore on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils capitalized on a penalty corner as first-year Emily Mycek (Norristown, Pa./Methacton) redirected a shot from Chelsea Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) in the 19th minute for the lone goal of the game.
The Red Devils controlled the run of play for the better part of the afternoon, holding a 15-2 advantage in shots and 10-1 in penalty corners.
The Dickinson defense did not allow a shot in the second half as senior goalkeeper Freddie Bancroft (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) made just one save to earn the shutout.
Zelda Bank finished with 10 saves in the nets for Swarthmore as they fall to 4-2 on the season.
The Red Devils improve to 5-1 overall and start conference play 1-0. They return home to face #14-ranked Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
