Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team improved to 2-0 on the season, holding off visiting Bridgewater College, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils received strong play all over the field while the first-years made a significant impact on the game. First-year Emma Godfrey (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) put Dickinson up, 1-0, scoring in the 17th minute as the Devils countered on a defensive penalty corner.
First-year defender Emily Mycek (Norristown, Pa./Methacton) capitalized on an offensive corner, finding the back of the cage on an assist from junior Chelsea Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) with just over six minutes remaining in the half.
Mycek turned in a solid performance on the defensive end of the field as well, joining Kim Monteferante (Putnam, N.Y./Lakeland) and Delaney Ahn (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) in front of senior goalkeeper Freddie Bancroft (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich).
Bridgewater cut the deficit to one on a goal by Emily Matisons with a little over 14 minutes to play in regulation. The Eagles had chances to pull even but Bancroft turned away two shots down the stretch, including one on a strong shot off a penalty corner to secure the win.
The Red Devils held a 17-3 advantage in shots and forced 11 penalty corners while allowing just two on the defensive end.
Ali Bishop finished with four saves as Bridgewater falls to 0-2 to start the season. The Red Devils are off to a great start, improving to 2-0 overall. They travel to York College on Wednesday night to face the Spartans at 6:00 pm.
