(Amherst, Mass.) – The #17-ranked Dickinson women's squash team stopped at Amherst on day two of a three day road-trip, falling to hosts, 9-0, on Friday afternoon. They quickly rebounded to post a 6-3 victory over #20-Wesleyan University.
Junior Hedvika Suchankova (Olomouc, Czech Republic/St. Michael's) claimed the first set in the top flight, 13-11, but Haley McAtee was able to rally for a 3-1 win (11-9, 11-8, 11-2).
Domenica Romo (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Atenas) turned in a strong performance in the three spot, falling (14-12, 8-11, 11-5, 12-10). First-year Carley Barton (Harare, Zimbabwe/Chisipite) went five sets before dropping a tough decision in the number seven flight.
First-year Aya Sobhy (Stroudsburg, Pa./Blair Academy) clinched the match for the Red Devils in the win over Wesleyan, coming from behind in the fourth set to win the fifth point, (5-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-9).
Abbie Wingerd (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) overcame an 0-2 start to win the ninth 3-2 (9-11, 9-11, 11-5, 12-10, 11-5).
Romo and Barton posted impressive wins while Nicole DeLuca (Newtown Square, Pa./Baldwin) survived a five-set marathon in the fourth and Alanis Perez (New Haven, Conn./Canterbury School) won in straight sets in the eighth flight.
The Red Devils improve to 3-8 on the season. They are back in action tomorrow morning, facing Mt. Holyoke at 8:00 am.
