Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team put up a battle against visiting Haverford College on Saturday, but the 'Fords came out on top, 61-56.
The teams played even throughout the first quarter with the 'Fords pulling in front at the end of the period, 17-13.
Despite some strong play from the Red Devils, Haverford capitalized on an 11-for-12 performance at the free throw line to stretch the margin to 39-28, at halftime.
Senior Kassidy Lesher (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg) led the way in the first half, scoring seven points and controlling six rebounds. First-year Claudia Maira (Clinton, N.J./North Hunterdon) came off the bench to spark the Red Devils with six points and a pair of assists, going 3-for-3 from the floor.
The Red Devils continued a trend of outstanding third quarters, outscoring Haverford, 19-7, to pull in front, 47-46.
Sophomore Hannah Heiring (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) caught fire in the second half. She fed classmate Lauren McBride (Trenton, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) for a three-pointer, and followed up with a three-pointer of her own and a big jumper to cut the deficit to one.
First-year Halle Maeda (Santa Monica, Calif./Mira Costa) put the Devils in front, scoring to close out the period.
The teams went back-and-forth through the fourth quarter. Julianna Clark buried a three-pointer to give the 'Fords a 57-56 advantage, with just over three minutes to play. They would hold on, improving to 16-3 on the season and 12-2 in the Centennial Conference.
Lesher had another big day, recording her eighth straight double-double of season, scoring 11 points and controlling 14 rebounds. Heiring led the Red Devils with 14 points, five rebounds and a pair of assists.
McBride finished with seven points and six rebounds, adding a pair of steals. Senior Mackenzie Skerritt (Hightstown, N.J./The Peddie School) turned in a strong performance on the defensive end, adding three points, three rebounds, and assist and a steal.
The Red Devils slip to 6-13 overall and 6-8 in the conference. They travel to McDaniel College on Wednesday for a 6:00 pm tip-off.
