(Chestertown, Md.) – The Dickinson field hockey team looked to rally but suffered a 3-2 setback at Washington College on Saturday afternoon.

The Shoremen took a 1-0 lead in the first half as Kailyn Brant converted an insert from Olivia Auer on a penalty corner, just 2:37 into the contest.

The hosts doubled the lead at the 23:15 mark as Auer picked up her second assist, feeding Grace Steele for 2-0 advantage.

The Red Devils answered with just over six minutes to play in the half. First-year Bridget Fontaine (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) redirected a shot off the stick of senior Chelsea Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown-Beard) to cut the deficit to one.

Brandt tallied her second of the game, early in the second half, putting the hosts in front, 3-1.

The Red Devils got a spark of life at the 16-minute mark as junior Alana Platukus (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Pittston Area) tipped in a long cross from Marie Laverdiere (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) to pull Dickinson back within one.

The Red Devils kept the pressure on, looking for the equalizer, pulling the goalkeeper for the final minute but the Shorewomen were able to hold on for the win.

The Red Devils outshot the hosts, 14-11, and held a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners. Morgan Domenico made seven saves for Washington as they improved to 4-8 overall and 4-2 in the Centennial Conference.

Junior Heather Meeder (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) made four saves for the Red Devils and junior Jillian Beemon (Ann Arbor, Mich./Skyline) added a defensive save on the afternoon.

The Red Devils slip to 2-9 overall and 1-5 in the conference. They return home to host the University of Lynchburg on Friday afternoon at 3:30 pm.
