#19 Bates Tops Devils to Claim Walker Cup

(Cambridge, Mass.) – The #17 ranked Dickinson women's squash team squared-off against #19 Bates College in the final of the Walker Cup at the College Squash Team Championships on Sunday. The Bobcats would claim the title, posting a 7-2 victory.

Bates took an early 3-1 lead, winning the third, fifth and sixth flights. Sophomore Abbie Wingerd (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) earned a point for the Red Devils, claiming the ninth flight with a strong finish (11-5, 8-11, 11-8, 11-3).

Eloise Nimoityn (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy) had a strong start and put up a solid challenge in the number three spot, falling (12-10, 11-6, 11-6).

Luca Polgar put the Bobcats on the verge of the win, claiming the second flight while Katherine Manternach clinched the match in the sixth flight to give Bates the title.

The Bobcats added points at number one and eight. Carley Barton (Harare, Zimbabwe/Chisipite) played a strong match in the eighth, (11-9, 11-6, 12-10).

Jaime Leigh Edghill (Diego Martin, Trinidad & Tobago/Holy Name) earned the point in the seventh flight, winning in straight sets (11-3, 11-2, 11-6).

The Red Devils finish the season 10-9 overall. They will compete at the CSA Individual Championships, beginning on March 4, at George Washington University.
