Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's soccer team opened the 2018 season with a 1-1 draw against visiting Babson College in the first round of the Brothers Pizza Blue Jay/Red Devil Classic on Friday night.
The Beavers found the net first, scoring 5:40 into the match as Liam Hanlon sent a nice cross to the back post for Mitchell Collins for a 1-0 advantage.
The score held throughout the first half with the Red Devils starting to put together some solid attacking runs before the break.
Sophomore Colin Fagan (Chalfont, Pa./C.B. South) came on in the second period and immediately gave the hosts a spark in the midfield. He broke through and finished an assist from junior Kevin Gilbert (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet Regional) in the 68th minute to pull the Red Devils even.
Each team had strong chances to tally the equalizer but the defenses held with matching play from both goaltenders. That continued through overtime with both teams starting the season 0-0-1.
Junior Steven Heintzelman made five saves for Babson while sophomore John Baney (Ridgewood, N.J./Montclair Kimberly Academy) earned the start and made seven stops for the Red Devils.
Babson travels to Elizabethtown College to face the Blue Jays while Keystone State comes to Miller Memorial Field to square-off with the Red Devils at 5:00 pm.
