Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team battled scorching heat and the visiting Spartans of York College on Wednesday afternoon.
The Spartans struck once in each half to claim to 2-0 decision. Sam Collis put away a shot in a scramble with an assist from Dana Meehling, with just under five minutes remaining in the half.
The Red Devils forced five penalty corners in the first half but were unable to net the equalizer as Sam Keating turned away three shots before the break.
York stretched the margin to 2-0 in the 48th minute as Meghan Heary finished an assist from Lindsey Nye.
The Red Devils added four penalty corners after the break and allowed just four for the game on the defensive end. Keating added two stops to finish with five saves to earn the shutout. Julea Truskey came away with a defensive save as well.
Junior Heather Meeder (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) made a remarkable stick save in the second half and finished with six on the afternoon.
The Red Devils slip to 0-3 on the season. They are home again on Saturday hosting Lebanon Valley. That game time has been changed to 3:00 pm.
