Red Devils Strike Early to Claim 6-0 Shutout

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson field hockey team turned in another strong performance on Wednesday afternoon, keeping their Centennial Conference playoff hopes alive with a 6-0 win over visiting McDaniel College.

The Red Devils got out on the Green Terror early, scoring three goals in the opening quarter. Sophomore Ellie Werner (Hellertown, Pa./Moravian Academy) put the Red Devils on the board, just4:48 into the match and first-year Macara Desai (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) doubled the score to 2-0, just over a minute later.

Dickinson tacked on another in the opening frame as senior Mia Scott (Mount Laurel, N.J./Holy Cross) redirected a ball off the stick of junior Marie Laverdiere (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) with just over five minutes to play.

The Green Terror turned in a strong defensive stand, keeping the Red Devils off the board in the second period. Dickinson would add to their total in the third with a pair of great attacking runs.

Sophomore Sierra Bobb (Dornsife, Pa./Line Mountain) finished a great cross from Maddie Dombroski (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) with 7:43 remaining in the period.

Bobb paid it forward less than a minute later, feeding Amanda Fruman (Owings Mills, Md./Garrison Forest) to stretch the lead to 5-0 at the end of the third.

The Red Devils closed out the scoring in the 55th minute as Sydney Engler (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) found the back of the cage after a scramble in front of the net.

The Red Devils were dominant in the circle, outshooting the Green Terror 39-2 while holding a 13-0 advantage in penalty corners.

Paige Ford did all she could in the nets for McDaniel, making 21 saves as Dickinson put 27 shots on target.

Heather Meeder (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) kicked away the only shot she faced while first-year Saige Stevens (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) turned away one in the second half to secure the shutout.

The Red Devils improve to 9-7 overall and move into the fifth spot in the Centennial Conference standings at 5-4. They travel to Gettysburg College (4-5) for a key regular season finale.
