(New Haven, Conn.) – The #18-ranked Dickinson women's squash team finished the weekend on a high note, defeating #20-Franklin & Marshall 7-2 in the consolation round of the Walker Cup Division at the College Squash Association Team Championships on Sunday afternoon.
They had a solid start as Alanis Perez (New Haven, Conn./Canterbury School) got stronger throughout her match to put the Devils up early with an (11-5, 11-3, 11-2) decision.
Aya Sobhy (Stroudsburg, Pa./Blair Academy) came out on top of a thrilling match, taking the six-spot with a strong finish (11-9, 17-19, 9-11, 11-2, 11-6).
First-year Courtney Trail (Palmerston North, New Zealand/Palmerston North Girls' School) and classmate Lindsay Kuracina (Thorn Hill, Ontario, Canada/Lake Forest, Ill.) were dominant in the top flights, posting straight set wins at one and two, respectively.
Nicole DeLuca (Newtown Square, Pa./Baldwin School) earned the point in the fifth flight (11-4, 8-11, 11-4, 11-8) while Abbie Wingerd (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) and Carley Barton (Harare, Zimbabwe/Chisipite) claimed 3-1 wins in the seven and eight flights.
Wingerd held off a mid-match challenge with a strong fourth in an (11-9, 10-12, 11-9, 11-3) victory. Barton had a great first set in an (11-2, 11-9, 8-11, 11-7) win. Sarah Murphy (Hamilton, Mass./Brooks School) posted a straight set exhibition win.
The Red Devils improve to 11-8 on the season. They will compete at the CSA Individual Championships at Brown University on March 1-3.
