'Fords Slip Past Red Devils in Conference Playoffs

Box Score

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The #22-ranked Dickinson women's lacrosse team suffered a heartbreaker in the opening round of the Centennial Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship, falling to Haverford College, 11-10, on Wednesday.

Senior Anne Dunster (Cos Cobb, Conn./Greenwich) turned in an amazing performance, scoring a conference playoff record eight goals on the afternoon.

The game was close the entire way as the Red Devil defense held the conference's leading scorer in check throughout the first half.

Haverford jumped out to 2-0 lead before Dunster found the net at the 24:39 mark. The 'Fords struck again but Dunster would answer and sophomore Mack Maurer (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) tallied to tie the game, 3-3.

The 'Fords pulled in front 5-3 before Dunster sandwiched a pair of scores around a goal from Courtney Cubbin to make the score 6-5 at halftime.

Allie Gibbons converted back-to-back free position goals to stretch the Haverford lead to 8-5 to start the second half.

Dunster countered once again and Maddie Parker (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) finished a great feed from Laurie Travaglini (Darien, Conn./Darien) to pull the Red Devils within one.

Gibbons and Dunster traded a pair of goals to put Haverford up, 10-9, with just under five minutes to play. Dunster would come up huge, netting another beautiful assist from Travaglini to tie the game at the 3:46 mark.

Eliza Brosgol came up with a late turnover and scored with 28 seconds remaining. The Red Devils forced a turnover and had one final run but were unable to net the equalizer.

Dunster tallied eight goals in 12 shots while Travaglini finished with a pair of assists to go with four ground balls and four caused turnovers. Maurer tallied a goal, assist and five draw controls while Parker added four draw controls on the day.

Clare Janzer (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) and Ashley Conner (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) anchored a solid defensive effort along with Sarah Benziger (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and sophomore Liz Schlerf (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park).

Drew Yager (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and Avery Priest (San Rafael, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep) split time in the nets as Yager made a pair of saves and Priest tallied five.

The Red Devils finish the season 11-6 overall.
