Box Score (Lexington, Va.) – The Dickinson field hockey team suffered a 4-0 setback at Washington & Lee University on Saturday, following a big second half by the Generals.
Following a scoreless first half, the hosts came alive, netting three goals in the third quarter. Grace Weiss stuck twice in a span of just over three minutes for a 2-0 lead.
Olivia Hewitt found the cage off a defensive rebound with 2:06 remaining in the third quarter to stretch the margin to 3-0 at the end of the period.
Tess Muneses hit a drive from the top of the circle, just over three minutes into the fourth quarter for the final goal of day.
Washington & Lee outshot the Red Devils 22-8 and held a 9-4 advantage in penalty corners. Senior goalkeeper Heather Meeder (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) made 11 saves for Dickinson while sophomore Hannah Spiri (Morgantown, Pa./Mountain Lakes) came up with a defensive save as well.
The Red Devils slip to 3-2 on the season. They are in action again tomorrow, traveling to Liberty University to face the University of Lynchburg at 12:00 pm.
