Box Score 2 (Winter Haven, Fla.) – The Dickinson baseball team split a double-header with Suffolk University, taking game two with a thrilling rally in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Rams took the opener 7-5 and the Red Devils claimed a 4-3 win in the nightcap.
The Red Devils jumped out to 3-0 lead in game one. Tom Gannaway (Westfield, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) led-off the inning with a single and came around to score on a single and an error off the bat of Pat Harrington (Long Valley, N.J./Delbarton).
Gannaway singled to drive in two runs in the second after Brian Reilly (Morganville, N.J./Marlboro) and Joey Volpe (Wall, N.J./St. Rose) reached on an error and a single. Gannaway stole second and third but was stranded at the end of the inning.
Suffolk pushed across four runs in the third inning behind four hits and added two more runs in the fourth to stretch the lead to 6-3.
Harrington singled and came around on an RBI double from Alex Cohen (Newtown Square, Pa./Penn Charter) in the top of the fifth.
Suffolk countered with one run in the bottom of the sixth and Harrington added an RBI with a sacrifice in the seventh for the final of 7-5.
Cohen went 3-for-4 with a double while Gannaway and Harrington each went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Beau Dana (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) recorded five strikeouts while Peyton Fox (York, Pa./Dallastown) added two strikeouts in two innings of relief.
The Rams tallied lone runs in the first and fourth innings of game two. The Red Devils answered in the bottom of the fourth as Cohen singled and came in on a balk after working his way to third.
Gannaway doubled and scored on a singled and error off the bat of Harrington to tie the game 2-2 in the fifth.
Back-to-back doubles put Suffolk in front 3-2 in the top of the seventh inning.
The Red Devils put runners in first and second as Brendan Pell (Delran, N.J./Penn Charter) and Ian Beumee (Denville, N.J./Morristown-Beard) were hit by pitches. Harrington singled to load the bases and Cohen came through with a two-RBI single to give the Red Devils the win.
Cohen went 2-for-3 and Harrington finished 2-for-4 to account for four of seven hits in the night cap.
The Red Devils are back in action tomorrow, facing Concordia University-Morehead in a double-header.
