Box Score 2 (Auburndale, Fla.) – The Dickinson baseball team swept a double-header from Concordia-Morehead on Sunday afternoon. The Red Devils blanked the Cobbers 7-0 in the opener and won the nightcap 7-4.
The Red Devils started the day be scoring three runs on four hits and three stolen bases in the bottom of the first inning of game one.
Tom Gannaway (Westfield, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) led-off with a single and a stolen base to set up an RBI for Pat Harrington (Long Valley, N.J./Delbarton) to put the Red Devils on the board.
Brendan Pell (Delran, N.J./Penn Charter) and Harrington executed a double steal to set the stage for RBI singles from Joey Volpe (Wall, N.J./St. Rose) and Brian Reilly (Morganville, N.J./Marlboro).
Alex Cohen (Newtown Square, Pa./Penn Charter) doubled to lead off the third and Volpe ripped a double to score Cohen and senior Max Matilsky (Bernardsville, N.J./Morristown-Beard) to stretch the lead to 5-0.
The Red Devils tacked on two more behind back-to-back doubles from Pell and Volpe and another RBI single from Reilly in the bottom of the sixth.
Volpe finished 3-for-3 with four RBI while Reilly tallied a pair of hits and two RBI as well. Jake Geddes (Darien, Conn./Darien) had another strong outing on the hill, tossing a seven-inning shutout with six strikeouts on the day.
In game two the Red Devils strung together three straight singles and capitalized on a pair of errors to push across four runs in the third inning on lone RBI from Cohen, Volpe, Matilsky and Reilly.
Cohen hit a double to lead off the fifth and came around on a single from Matilsky and Reilly followed up a double from Volpe with a two-run homer to stretch the lead to 7-0.
The Cobbers looked to rally in the seventh, scoring four runs before the Red Devils closed the door for a 7-4 final.
Cohen had another strong performance, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI while Reilly was 3-for-3, driving in three runs.
Marcus Thompson (Foothill Ranch, Calif./Trabuco Hills) earned the win, scattering two hits over five innings while recording five strikeouts while Ethan Collins (Elmer, N.J./Arthur P. Schalick) earned the save.
The Red Devils improve to 6-4 on the season. They return to action on Monday, facing Rensselaer at 9:00 am.
