Stevens Makes Season-High Nine Saves in Shutout of No. 11 Ursinus

Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Dickinson field hockey team got nine saves from goalie Saige Steven as well as first-half goals by Hailey Womer and Hannah Spiri to upset No. 11 Ursinus College by a final of 2-0 on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference play.

Stevens was tested early as she stopped both Devon Carroll and Kayla Paulson in the opening three minutes. A minute later Dickinson was on the attack with Abby Marthins having a shot turned aside by Jordan Ulsh. Ursinus had two more chances in the quarter, but Amanda Groeling and Carroll both missed the mark. DC responded with back-to-back shots by Marthins, however, she was stopped by Ulsh. Then, just before the first quarter horn Womer would insert a penalty corner to the top of the circle that found Spiri who hit Womer with a return feed for the finish.

The Bears began the second quarter strong with Jordan Moore recording two shots in the first two minutes but was once again denied by Stevens. Womer would test Ulsh at the 3:45 mark, before she setup Spiri at the 19:16 mark for the 2-0 lead. UC had a couple of looks towards the cage prior to the break but was unable to force a save from Stevens.

Five minutes into the third both keepers were called upon as Stevens turned aside Ellie Bruggeman, while Sierra Bobb was shutdown by Ulsh to preserve the 2-0 score. UC would have two more shots that did not require attention from Stevens. With 7:22 gone in the quarter, a Devil foul inside the circle resulted in a Bears penalty stroke. Suzanna Toledo Cornm stepped up to the spot, but Stevens was there to deny the shot to keep it 2-0 to the fourth.

Ursinus had the only five shots of the final 15-minutes, but Stevens recorded four more saves to complete the 2-0 shutout.
