Scharf Earns All-American Status at NCAA Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Dickinson men's cross country senior Christopher Scharf earned All-American honors with a 32nd-place finish at the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday afternoon at Tom Sawyer State Park.

Scharf settled into his spot in the pack early and did not relinquish any ground running anywhere from 38th to 31st during the 8k event, before ultimately crossing in 32nd with a time of 24:18.7 to claim All-American status. He was also the first Centennial Conference member to finish the event.

His brother Charles Scharf got to a highwater mark of 105th at the five-kilometer mark prior to crossing the finish line at 25:01.4 for a 135th-place result.

Jacob Doherty Munro was the other Devil who competed in the race clocking in at 25:40.4 to land in 220th.

Alex Phillip of John Carroll won the individual crown with a time of 23:27.6 holding off the competition by three seconds. Pomona-Pitzer took home the team title with just 80 points, followed by MIT with 112. The rest of the Top-5 was made up of Williams (167), John Carroll (179), and Wisconsin-Whitewater (201).
