Box Score CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's soccer team got a goal from Adam Moreland, but it would not be enough as the ninth-ranked Messiah University Falcons downed the Red Devils 6-1 on Wednesday night at Phyllis Joan Miller Memorial Field in non-conference action.
Both teams were on the front foot early as Jonathan Groothoff and Luke Brautigam tested John Baney, while Aidan Bennett-Jones was turned aside by Jared Pavlovich in the opening eight minutes. Messiah then hit their stride with two of their next four shots hitting the back of the net thanks to Ben Lefever and Groothoff making it 2-0 with 17:08 gone. Between the 24th and 29th minutes, the Falcons added two more with Josh Bratager and Brautigam extending the margin. Will Flannery would have the Red Devils final shot of the half in the 36th-minute, but it missed wide right. The visitors tacked on one more at 37:34 to lead 5-0 at the break.
Just 40-seconds into the second half DC would be down to 10-men once Isaac Bradbury picked up his second yellow card of the match. Messiah immediately looked to take advantage of the extra man, but Lefever was shutdown by Devils new keeper Andrew Kempe. In the 53rd, Trevor Goodling netted the final marker for the visitors, before ten minutes later Ronan Higgins setup Moreland after a nice run down the left side to cap the scoring on the night.
