Box Score CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson field hockey team fired 16 shots, including 11 on target, but were unable to solve Sara Amil as the visiting Washington and Lee Generals scored twice in the second for a 2-0 win on Friday afternoon.
After a couple of early fouls, the Red Devils had the first chance at goal as Amanda Fruman inserted a penalty corner. However, the ensuing shots from Hannah Spiri and Ellie Werner were denied by Amil. DC would have the only other shot of the frame at the 13:09 mark, but Amil was once again up to the task against Fruman.
It took 6:08 into the second quarter to see the first shot of the period when Tess Muneses caused a turnover and found Grace Weise who sent the offering beyond Saige Stevens for the 1-0 lead. The Red Devils were unable to take advantage of back-to-back corners as Spiri was turned away by Amil. Stevens would make two more saves before Freddie Tobeason tallied unassisted with 2:15 remaining to extend the gap to 2-0.
After the halftime break, W&L had the opening two shots of the stanza, prior to Lucy Walrond getting stopped by Amil with 5:36 gone. Most of the third would be played in the midfield, but Dickinson would have one final chance before things headed to the fourth as Sydney Engler was blocked by the Generals defense.
The Red Devils came storming out of the blocks to begin the final period as Abby Marthins and Fruman tested Amil in the opening two minutes. A couple of W&L chances went wide, prior to Wyley Fitzpatrick making a strong run into the circle and having her shot knocked off the line by Abby Hamilton after the ball got by Amil. Dickinson continued to push with Sierra Bobb and Spiri each getting two shots away in less than a minute. Unfortunately, for the home side, Fitzpatrick would have the final opportunity of the game with 3:15 left but it slid wide.
